Probably because I’ve heard it multiple times from multiple people and that includes women)it’s been talked about A LOT on twitter, it’s okay that you weren’t offended by it but there are many people who have dealt with assault and hearing the two people they look up to and adore make a joke of it is devastating. it’s a big deal and they’re getting called out for it, it’s ok to call our your favs when they did something wrong. maybe this will teach them to grow up from offensive jokes and even apologize, which they haven’t yet.

I know that. But tbh they kind of called themselves out during the panel so I’m not sure if we need to do it for them.

Y’know what, no. They shouldn’t have to apologize for this. Jared said flat out that “[his] jokes are all really offensive.” Jensen told him not to go there. They know it was tasteless, but Jared at least went there anyway, in part, I think, because the audience kept pushing for him to.
I think so many people are offended about this because their perceptions of what J2 are like have been challenged. There’s A LOT of people who hold them to some super morally high unrealistic expectation just because they’re the stars of a favorite show and then get angry when the actors are themselves instead of the idealized version and I’m sick of it. It totally strips them of their autonomy and it’s complete bullshit. They’re just people. They’re allowed to make mistakes and be minorly offensive sometimes.
And has anyone stopped to consider that maybe making jokes like these are the way they cope with the massive amounts of sexual harassment they get on a daily basis? Because I can tell you from personal experience that being able to joke about horrible things is MUCH healthier in the long run than insisting that it’s something taboo that can only ever be talked about super seriously.
People are allowed to be offended by what was said, but I don’t think it’s right that J2 are getting attacked over it, especially after the audience asked him to go there and Jared explicitly warned everyone that his joke was offensive.
…… first of all, they are not getting attacked over it. they’re getting called out.
second, how is joking about rape in front of your fans an acceptable way to ‘cope’? i can see now you’re trying to make excuses for them. and you don’t think they should apologize for saying and making light of something so horrible. i don’t understand why? why shouldn’t they apologize for it? all they have to do is say “i’m sorry guys, we understand what we joke about is horrible, we won’t do it again” i really can’t understand why you think they shouldnt apologize, i can’t.
oh and jared didn’t really ‘call himself out’ like… at all. all he said was his jokes were offensive. then he told the joke and faked a mic drop like he was proud of himself.
just because he was ‘pressured’ by the audience shouldn’t be an excuse. he shouldn’t say /anything/ like that in the first place. plus the fandom is bigger than just that one audience. we didn’t want to hear it.
please, stop and think about how other fans are feeling and not just how YOU feel. they should apologize, it’s the right thing to do.
